Football

The beautiful game

Although the Club is proud of the diversity of sports and facilities it has to offer, our main membership is taken from the community's football players, and the club's roots are firmly based on the “beautiful game”. Kilwinning has long been associated as a footballing hotbed and the Club hope to continue with this great tradition by promoting football in the community and by providing first class facilities for all our members in particular – and indeed for the wider community in general.

We provide playing facilities for both sexes and accommodate players ranging from age 5 to age 55 ! Almost every football team within Kilwinning use the facilities of the club – either for coaching sessions and/or for matches. Out of our member teams, only our local junior team, Kilwinning Rangers FC and one of the town's long established amateur clubs, Dirrans Athletic do not play their home games at the club, although they do use the club's facilities for training and team meetings.

Playing facilities

As the club continues to grow, we are almost at saturation point when it comes to trying to accommodate all the teams' requests for pitches and the Club's Management Committee is continually looking to maintain existing and develop additional areas. In addition to our all-weather facility and depending on the time of year the club can provide up to 6 or 7 11-a-side grass pitches and/or numerous 7-a-side pitches to accommodate the demand from the member teams.

We also have available to teams a grass, floodlit goalkeepers training area which is surrounded by a small running track for those teams who want to go for a run within the confines of the club.

The future

Although the Club's Management Committee and staff are always trying to accommodate new sports and are currently actively involved in trying to bring a number of other sports to the Club, the predominant sport is, and probably will always be, football. We hope that we can continue to foster the development of young players in particular. By coaching the kids at a young age, we hope that we can help develop their skills and that they can enjoy playing football for as long as possible in a safe and friendly environment. Who knows, in a few years time we may again have a national team that we can be proud of and that possibly a few of the players will have started their footballing adventure at Kilwinning Community Sports Club.
